Ballymoney Hockey Club 2nds are too strong for Victorians

BALLYMONEY Seconds were too strong for Victorians with a narrow 1-0 win.

Both teams came out strongly in the first half with each taking their chances but the keepers kept it a nil all game.

In the second half Ballymoney came out fighting with Becky Gamble playing out of her skin.

Game time was halted after a Victorians player was injured.

Some surprising umpiring resulted in two separate Ballymoney players being green carded.

Once Sarah Gardner returned to the pitch she wasn’t going to be stopped.

Ballymoney were awarded a short corner which Sarah Gardner took the opportunity to put in the back of the net to put Ballymoney up 1-0 with only a couple of minutes to the end of the game.

Ballymoney knew the game wasn’t over with Victorians getting an opportunity to have a shot on goal but to Ballymoney’s relief it went wide.

Ballymoney’s best wishes go out to the Victorians player and hope she has a speedy recovery.

* Ballymoney Firsts had no game but the Thirds were beaten by Grosvenor.

* Fixtures - 1sts away to Glenanne in Dublin this Saturday November 30 in the second round of the Irish Senior Cup.

* Dalriada 1st XI Hockey Team Start their Cup Campaign

On 23/11/13 Dalriada 1XI travelled to Belfast to play Strathearn School in the first round of the cup.

Dalriada started off strong showing great composure and skill breaking through Strathearn’s defence with a skilful reverse shot on goal from midfielder Sophie Sterne.

Unfortunately the ball did not reach the back of the net as Strathearn defensive line stayed tight.

Strathearn soon with much hard effort made a break through Dalriada’s strong midfield and defence, resulting in a goal, to make the match 1-0.

Dalriada fought back with much power showing a fantastic performance from right back Sophia Rogers and centre midfield Lynn MacAuley.

Overall Dalriada 1stXI notably showed hard work and determination.

They were unlucky to not even out the score.

Strathearn will now progressonto the second round of the cup with their 1-0 win.
