Ballymoney Multi-Sports League

DUE to the postponement last week this Friday evening will see the commencement of the new Multi-Sports League.

This Multi-Sports League is a community sport initiative for young people (boys/girls) 11-14 years in the Borough.

The project is the brainchild of John Fall (Ballymoney Community Sport Project Officer) and has attracted funding from Ballymoney Community Safety Partnership and Community Good Relations.

The league will be based at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre Sports Hall starting this Friday 15 January and will run on a Friday night for 6 weeks, 7pm – 9pm. It is hoped to attract 10 teams to participate and that it will involve community associations, junior sports clubs, youth clubs, boys and girls brigade teams from across the Ballymoney borough.

The matches will be officiated by fully qualified referees, and where necessary travel to and from the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre will be provided. Each team consists of seven players; with only five on the floor (depending on the sport) at any one time, substitutions will be on a roll on roll off basis.

The main aim of the project is to tackle anti-social behaviour amongst teenagers by providing the participants with something exciting to do in the evening and thus reduce their opportunities to become involved in anti-social behaviour. After consultations between Ballymoney Community Safety Partnership and the local PSNI Neighbourhood Police Team it was apparent that anti-social behaviour is on the increase in the Ballymoney borough and so this initiative is a positive response to help tackle this problem.
