Ballymoney on cloud nine after resounding cup victory

BALLYMONEY started confidently playing some good passing football.

After five minutes they took the lead when Odhran Doherty scored with a low shot to the corner of the net.

Odhran doubled the lead after nine minutes with a replica of his first goal.

Ballymoney were dominating the match and from an Andrew Dunlop corner on 13 minutes, confusion in the Banbridge defence led to Ballymoney's' third goal.

Following another Ballymoney attack the ball fell to Mark McConaghie who scored from the edge of the 18 yard area to make it 4-0.

The Ballymoney defence of Chrissy Moore, Craig Cunningham, Adam Jamison and Ryan McCook were playing well and dealt with any Banbridge attacks.

After 22 minutes Mark McConaghie scored again from the edge of the area, increasing the lead to 5-0.

Conleth O'Neill ,Danny Laverty and Rhys Ferris worked hard in midfield to provide ball for the forwards.

On 25 minutes Odhran Doherty completed his hat trick and Andrew Dunlop scored from a penalty to leave the score 7-0 at the break.

Ballymoney continued to attack the Banbridge goal in the second half and increased their lead on 40 minutes when Mark McConaghie scored his third. Lyndon McCook in goal for Ballymoney was alert even though he saw little of the ball. Mark Kelly, Scott Douglas, Connall Doherty and Harry Kirkpatrick were introduced and all played well with Connall just failing to score on a couple of ocassions.

With 10 minutes left Rhys Ferris cut in from the right and completed the scoring with a shot to the corner of the net to leave the final score 9-0.

After a football drought due to the adverse weather conditions it was great for the boys to get the boots back on.

Ballymoney had all the early pressure in this game but failed to capitalise on any of them.

Then finally Ballymoney made the break through, M Ferguson aka Mousey scored from 20yards to give them a deserved lead.

They held the lead only ten mins when they failed to defend a corner just before the half time break to allow Red Star to equalise 1-1.

Second half Ballymoney made two changes and it paid dividend when Mousey scored his second within five mins. He controlled the ball with his back to goal and turned to fire into the net 2-1.

Two mins later Mousey completed his hat trick when he finished from close range 3-1.

The back four were comfortable most of the game with Andrew Harding at right back very good. Dorrian, McBride, Moore and Hewitt worked hard in the midfield and Freeman and Carey had a good Second half. McLaughlin scored late in the match with a good strike to make the final score 4-1.
