Ballymoney travel to Antrim

On Saturday 9th February Ballymoney 2XI traveled to Antrim Forum to play Randalstown, in what turned out to be a very exciting game.

Ballymoney started off strong with a goal from Karen Watson coming within the first 5minutes, the strong strike penetrated into the bottom left hand corner making the score 1-0.

The team continued to look strong and defence were called upon due to pressure from Randalstown resulting in goalkeeper Kate Mckane having to make an acrobatic save.

Play settled down until Ballymoney began to test Randalstown further. Midfielder Laura McCurdy produced some outstanding ball control which lead onto her top left hand corner goal which the Randalstown goalkeeper knew very little about until it was too late. The first half concluded with the score at 2-0 with Ballymoney looking quite comfortable.

As the second half got underway things began to get heated due to some disputable umpiring decisions. However Ballymoney picked themselves up and produced yet another goal with forward Cathryn Knipe’s dribble and fantastic strike leading on from a well worked piece of midfield play from Lauren Mullan and Karen Watson.

Ballymoney’s defence found themselves under extensive pressure particularly down both flanks with Lesley Davis down the left and Clare Parkhill down the right keeping things together. However despite the defence’s best efforts Randalstown pulled back a goal from open play. Randalstown gained a free just outside the Ballymoney circle.

The ball was played to a Randalstown defender who somehow managed to break through and scramble the ball into the back of the goal. The match concluded 3-1, with Ballymoney gaining 3 very much needed points maintaining their joint top spot with Queens.
