On a new course set out on the Ballybogey Rd, Top time trial testers Mervyn Linton set a NEW Ballymoney CC record for the 10 mile TT in a time of 21.56 and youth riders Finn Sands Robinson, Shay Donley and Jake Taggart all set U16/14 and 12 records in the process.

A new woman’s record was set by Sonia Knox in a time of 24.43. It has to be noted that with today’s state of the art technology it was pointed out to timekeepers Chris Surgeoner and Maurice McAllister that the course was 0.13 of a mile (230yds) to long. So before the Ballymoney Top flight outfit can use this course for Championships, this will have to be remeasured and agin it will see even faster times.

The Allcomers record was set by Ballymoney Favourite and the fastest time trialler on the island of Ireland John Madden. John did a usual spectactular time of 20:56 on what was a cold and high wind experience with no semblance what soever of a spring evening.

Again a great turn out of youth riders were in the field. The younger U12 and 14 year olds usually accompanied by a parent on a bike or in a car with the U12’s riding the distance and the timekeeper giving them a time to generate ongoing interest.

Congratulations to BCC’s Niall O’Hagan who finished the top quality Tour of Ulster at the weekend, Niall, was in the splintered field that saw the 2nd stage abandoned at Kilkeel after 45 of the 97 miles were covered. This was due to sub zero conditions, snow, driving rain and hail stones battering the riders with some falling off as they could not hold onto the handlebars.

The next two stage of 92 and 75 miles saw Niall battling on to complete this achievement as he goes into the 8 day An Post Ras International stage race starting in Dunboyne this Sunday.
