Ballymoney Under 12's ready for Foyle Cup action

AFTER months of intensive training and coaching, Ballymoney and District Under 12 soccer squad are heading for the Foyle Cup in Londonderry.

The squad, under the management of Peter Kearns along with Carson Shaw, Ricky Moore and Mark Coyle, are in tip-top shape, but realise the daunting task ahead of them.

Games began today (Tuesday) and the tournament will go on until Saturday with the cream of soccer talent from throughout the country taking part.

It hasn’t been easy for the Ballymoney management team with finances always an issue.

However, they are indebted to the spiritied attitude of parents and business people who have contributed financially as well as offering lifts and doing what they can to help.

Carson Shaw admits it wasn’t an easy task whittling down the squad from 38 to 18 and concedes there were some disappointed faces, but the reality is that numbers have to be reduced and the squad are now bracing themselves for a series of games.

“Many of our boys are just leaving Primary School and will be up against slightly older boys probably with more experience, but the team has come a very long way in a year and we expect them to give a good account,” Carson told the Times.
