Ballyvally archers start the summer in style outdoors

Around 50 members of Ballyvally Archery Club started the summer in style by participating in the first outdoor practice at Loughbrickland.

Two courses had been set out to international standards by George Nesbitt, Sam Jackson and Kim Pegrum to firstly help the six members of Ballyvally who have been selected for the GB team to shoot in the World Field Championships in Croatia in August 2014 and also to help prepare the next group of archers to reach those standards, the Junior field squad going to Kendal in Cumbria in July to compete in the UK Junior Field Champs.

The oldest archer out on Wednesday night was just over 90 years of age and the youngest was a cub of six years of age. Archery, Ballyvally style, appeals to all ages.

Club practice will take place every Wednesday night by kind permission of Dr. Jean Whyte who has been very helpful to the club over the years.

The club would also like to wish Rebecca Lennon and Dean Hamilton the best of luck as they prepare to shoot in Moscow in July. At the weekend the club has moved a whole course to Greenmount near Belfast International airport, another example of how the club helps improve archers’ performance by providing new courses and challenges at different venues.
