Banbridge B&D team race to another record on the road

Under the captaincy of Connor Doran, they defeated Galgorm Castle 5-2 away from home in the first round. That was their best ever away performance up to that date.

Would you believe it, they went one better in round two when they defeated Massereene 6-1 in the away leg last Saturday.

Luke Woods lost in the top game by five and four. Then Jim Carvill won three and two, Colin Wilton won two and one, Connor Doran won four and three, Rory Leonard won four and three, Stephan Greenberg won three and two and Kenny Stevenson won one up.

Massereene is a magnificent course on the shores of Lough Neagh. This was truly a glorious result for the Banbridge team.

The second leg will be played at home next Saturday evening and, thankfully, there will be no midges.

Rossmore Cup

The Banbridge Rossmore Cup team, captained by Mel Hylands, travelled to Dungannon last Sunday for the first leg of their first round match.

Mel’s team looked very strong on paper but, over the verdant fairways of the Dungannon course, they were just not strong enough.

The results were as follows:

Joe Glass and Fergie Gosgrove lost 5 and 4.

P.J. Johnston and William McCandless lost 4 and 3.

Brian Berry and Sherwin Curran lost 5 and 4.

Garreth Matthews and Richard Coburn half match.

The score at the halfway stage, is Dungannon 3.5 Banbridge 0.5.

Mel’s team have to win 4-0 at home next Sunday. Stranger things have happened.
