Banbridge beat Tandragee in Senior Cowdy quarter final

Banbridge had won the home leg by 20.5 to 10.5 so they went to Tandragee last Tuesday needing 11 points from a possible 32.

Tandragee started off in a very determined fashion and they were looking good in every game. But Kieran’s men did not panic and they slowly but surely began to get the upper hand.

Paul Magennis lost all four points against Chris McGladdery.

Colin Wilton got an excellent half against Clarke McAllister and that was two points for Banbridge. Only nine more were needed.

Rory Madeley was four down after only eight holes against Neil Cooke but he staged a superb comeback. Rory actually had a chance to halve his match but he three-putted the eighteenth green. But he still picked up a valuable point. The target was now down to eight.

Neil Madeley was in tip-top form and he beat Craig Black 3 and 2. This was a key result as Neil got three points. Banbridge only needed another five points and there were still four games out on the course.

Ross McCandless, Jonathan Burns and Kenny Stevenson were all guaranteed at least a half match so that was a total of six points. It was all over and the Tandragee captain conceded defeat.

Jonathan Ward was one up playing the 17th and he was happy enough to walk in. The match had finished just in time, as it was getting very dark.

Both the Senior and Junior Cowdy teams are in the semi-final. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful double for the Banbridge club if they could both win their respective competitions?

The opportunity is there and let’s hope that it comes about.
