Banbridge out of Ulster Fourball

BANBRIDGE are out of the Ulster Fourball, well and truly beaten by Foyle Golf Club.

Danny O’Boyle’s team were rather unlucky in the away leg when they lost by five games to nil. They came so close to getting a point or even two and that would have made all the difference.

It was always going to be an uphill task at home. But, all credit to Danny’s men, they put up a very brave show last Sunday.

Carson Clegg and Jonathan Kerr won 2 up; Merton McDowell and Aidan Lavery won 4 and 3; Robert Haire and Patsy McCourt won 5 and 4.

Everyone was getting rather excited. Could this match be turned on its head?

I’m afraid not. Colm and Kieran McGreevey came up against two Derry men who could do little wrong. They lost 5 and 4 and that was it all over.

Tom Ferris and Robert Clydesdale were all square after 14 holes when they were called in.

It was a gallant effort but it proved too much.

Never mind! In six months time, there won’t be a word about it.
