The team total of 119 points will unforatunately put Banbridge well down the league.

The weather was horrendous and it was a surprise for many of the players that it was played at all.

Peter Hillen was the top scorer for Banbridge with 32 points.

Sam Wilkinson scored 31 points while Norman Doak and John Poots both finished with 28 points.

These scores look on the low side but when the playing conditions are factored in, they weren’t too bad at all.

The other four players for Banbridge were Bobby Geddis, Verdun Bond, Brian Mulholland and Dougie Stevenson.

The second round will be played at Portadown on Wednesday May 20.

Team captain, Dougie Stevenson, has brought in a few of the “big guns” for that fixture, namely: Fleix Duffy, Dennis Lockhart, Aidan Doran, Roy Rankin and Semaus McGrath.

Wilson just keeps on winning

James Wilson (11) finished with two birdies in the last three holes to win the Open Stableford last Thursday with 43 points.

It is hard to believe that James had a handicap of 23 back in January of last year.

In the space of 16 months James has achieved his ambition of becoming a single figure golfer.

He was the golfer of the Year last season and he has already won a major competition this year, the Darren Clarke Charity. It is an incredible story.

John J Lennon (12) was runner-up with 42 points and Shane Rooney (8) was third with 39 points.

Neil Clydesdale (4) shot the best gross score, a two over par 71.

Richard Coburn (11) had 39 points.

Noel McSherry (13) and Callum Barnes (7) both had 38 points.

All three came very close to winning a prize.
