Banbridge, captained by Gerry and Denise McBrien, had the benefit of playing on their home course.

Cathal O’Neill and Fionulla Crossey got the team off to a good start with an excellent score of 72.

Seamus Rooney and Anne Canavan also did very well with a 74.

Colin Wilton and Mary Jo Thompson kept the mistakes to a minimum and carded a 75.

Another decent score was all that was needed. And it came fron William Malcolmson and Mary Longmore.

Their 78 gave Banbridge a four card total of 299. They had to wait a long time to see if that score was good enough to qualify. And in the end, it was.

Warrenpoint totalled 295.5, Lurgan had 298, Banbridge had 299 and Rockmount also had 299.

These four teams go into the first round of matchplay. Banbridge will play Lurgan at the neutral venue of Tandragee.

Qualifying is always the most difficult part of this competition. Banbridge will fancy their chances now.
