Bann 2s continue their rise with third promotion on the trot

Banbridge Ladies Second XI will next season play in the highest level of Ulster Junior Hockey, having secured their third successive promotion.

Despite completing their league season with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Lisnagarvey, the girls finished second in Junior Two and, in doing so, earned a place in Junior One.

The goal of the disappointing game against Garvey came, fittingly, from Bann’s top goal-scorer Nadene Black. Lisnagarvey netted one in each half.

Despite Garvey finding away to break through the Banbridge ranks, Naomi Matthews played another stormer in goals while the defence of Jade Kennedy, Joanna Palnoch, Jessica Hassan, Jo-Anne Lyttle and captain Kate Cunningham showed the same resolve and determination that they have upheld all season.

Amanda Morton stepped into centre midfield and along with Megan Whan, Elayne Brown and Alannah Magee provided a solid platform for the Banbridge attack. Banbridge forwards Nadene Black, Sarah Anderson, Ashleigh Mitchell and Helen Sawyers battled against the Garvey side but just couldn’t find the result they were looking for and recently have grown accustomed to.

Despite this disappointing result, the hard work had already been done and Bann secured promotion regardless.

The team would like to extend a special word of thanks coach Robin Madeley for his dedication to the team and his inspiration and motivation every step of the way. The team also thanked their supporters, umpires and anyone who has contributed in any way to this successful season.

The Bann side are still going strong in the plate and face Armagh 2nds on the 15th.
