Bann cap off season with a derby victory

Bann Firsts ended a pleasing season with a 55-44 win at local rivals Dromore last week.

After a draw in their previous encounter, Bann knew this game would be tough and were determined as ever to seal a victory.

Bann came out fighting from the first whistle with some admirable attacking play. Lynn Donaldson WA and Emma Boyd C produced some brilliant feeds into shooters Sarah Porter GA and Emma Cartmill GS. The attackers effortlessly converted them to goals. Bann showed their strength and skills in the first half with both the defensive and attacking players working together to prevent a focused and resilient Dromore side taking any lead and finished the half leading by five goals.

Bann went into the second half putting their small lead to the back of their minds, aiming to play with the fight and willingness to win that they had played with in the first half.

Bann’s persistent defensive pairing of Amanda Johnston GD and Christine Cartmill GK achieved some superb interceptions from the Dromore attack which their side took full advantage of. Joanne Kerr WD and Emma Boyd C defended tightly and forced Dromore errors that Bann eagerly converted to goals.

In the final quarter, Dromore began to reduce the deficit, capitalising on any errors. However, after a well fought match, it was Bann that came out triumphant. It’s safe to say that Bann have finished the season on a high.

The coaches felt it unfair to select a player of the match on this occassion as it was a splendid effort by the whole team.
