But, after a few hours delay, it was decided that play should go ahead.

P.J. Johnson, the captain of the Banbridge team, had a few late withdrawals from his original selection. This was unfortunate but he managed to get good replacements.

Foursomes is not an easy format and the weather conditions certainly didn’t help.

The Banbridge team was Seamus Rooney and Eamon McAnarney; Adam McGregor and Jim Matthews; Roy Sipson and Mark McCoy; Malcolm Russell and David Cherry; Neville Kerr and Gareth Matthews.

The four best cards from Banbridge totalled 348.

The four qualifying teams were Tandragee 321, Lurgan 340, Edenmore 340 and Lurgan 343.

So, after all, Banbridge failed to qualify by 5 shots. They were very close. If each pair had been two shots better, they would have qualified with ease. But it was not to be.
