Bann Fourths demolish North Down to cruise into second round

Banbridge Mens Fourths beat North Down Fourths 4-1 in the first round of the Ulster JuniorShield competition at Nendrum College in Comber,

Bann took the game to North Down from the off with Gary Dean and Luke Roleston causing lots of problems for the home defence.

Matthew Young was creating some great opportunities down the left flank.

From one of these early forays Sam Green scored a great individual goal, latching on to a ball in the North Down half, beatingseveral players and beating the goalie.

After some good work by the midfield of Roger Martin and Joel Reid, Gary Dean scored Bann’s second with a great finish.

Bann were thedominant team and any brief attacks by the home team were quickly annulled by the Bann defence.

Nathan Liggett from leftback proved an excellent outlet.

From another attack Daniel Colvin scored a rocket of a reverse in the top corner of the net only for it to be disallowed andbrought back for a free in.

Bann won a series of short corners but failed to capitalise on these.

Bann finished the half 2-0 ahead.

In the second half Dean was tormenting the North Down defence and made it 3-0 with yet another superb goal.

Rolestonand Corey Large were working hard upfront to support Dean on these attacks.

Nigel Allister at centre back was providing some greatearly balls to release the forwards.

Matthew Young continued to attack down the left hand side and from one these he sent a great cross in which was deflected ontarget and the keeper parried this effort.

Corey Large was on hand to finish clinically by putting the ball into the roof of the net.

The aerials from the back by Douglas Anderson were giving the forwards plenty of ball to run onto.

Bann had a couple of short corners from which Roger Martin worked the goal keeper into a few saves.

Bann did have more opportunities to increase theirlead but were not clinical in the final pass or their shot on goal.

North Down scored a consolation with the game coming to aclose.
