IN another rearranged league game Banbridge travelled to the seaside to play Newcastle.

Going into this game Banbridge were placed third in the league and Newcastle seventh so Bann were favourites.

Every point is crucial to maintain Senior One status. It was close enough with Bann winning in the end by 13 points but claiming six shots to one.

Rink 1 - Winning the first five ends laid the foundations for this win. Leading 9-0 by the 11th end Bann’s lead was six shots at the 15th end. They had a 14 shot advantage, 20-6, and then went on to win 24-11.

Rink 2 - This was a much tighter game that swayed and changed several times that the result could have gone either way.

Bann lead 4-2 at four ends but lost a five and three and by end nine they were nine shots in arrears.

But by winning the next six ends Bann led by six shots to leave the score 21-15 after 15 ends. Bann went on to win the last two ends to win 24-21.

Rink 3 - After four ends Bann trailed 5-1 but won the following six ends to lead 13-5 after 10 ends.

In a close game both of the teams exchanged scores with Bann winning 20-12.

Rink 4 - P O’Keefe, W Steenson, D Craig and D Hamilton just could not get going and only won two shots in the first 10 ends. This left the Bann players 14 shots down at 2-16.

A famous Banbridge rallying cry - keep her going ‘til you get it started - proved to be the case as after 19 ends Bann were just four shots adrift at 16-20.

But when lying a few shots the Jack was moved, Newcastle scored three shots and claimed another four on the last end with Bann losing 16-27.
