Bann hold the holders as Brown shines at Havelock

It’s a result that keeps Bann in third spot in the table, two points ahead of Three Rock Rovers as the race for play-off spots heats up.

They were helped by Garvey’s 4-3 win over Three Rock on Saturday.

Bann had led through a Eugene Magee reverse before the visitors equalised through a Gareth Watkins penalty stroke.

Bann’s Peter Brown has received rave reviews in recent weeks and put in another comannding display in central midfield.

Jake Rowe was also a shining light at right-back and his defence were made to work in the seocnd quarter.

Peter Caruth turned on his quality and teed up an attack that saw Monkstown shoot wide. Matthew Bell also had to be at his best to put in a goal-saving challenge.

It was the third quarter that brought the goals. Banbridge began to dominate and Stevie Dowds threstened to open the scoring with an effort that was deflected wide.

Shortly after, the forward forced an impressive double save from a short corner but that paved the way for the opening goal.

The next corner was switched to Magee, who sent home an effort on the reverse.

They couldn’t see the lead through to the end of the quarter and Watkins ruthlessly levelled the scores.

Bann pushed hard for a winning goal but Monkstown held out to stay four points clear of their opponents in second spot.
