Banbridge Ladies 2

The 2.30pm pass-back away to Larne was an opportunity for Banbridge ladies to start the New Year on a high.

Banbridge, missing a few of their first eleven players, started well causing the Larne backline some problems but they held strong. Forward line runs from Cathy Rees, Amy Atkinson and Rachel Cairns had Larne on the back foot early in the game.

Banbridge battled hard all over the pitch, however, Larne worked the ball well through the middle of the pitch to create a one on one opportunity with the Goalkeeper in which they converted to gain the lead in the 28th minute.

Larne held the lead until half time with Banbridge coach Robin Madeley praising the efforts of the Banbridge ladies.

Banbridge came out fighting in the second half and were able to create some great chances but the ball would not finish in the net. Larne had few chances to break through the strong Banbridge defence with Alannah Magee, Megann McKenna and Charley Brush displaying a strong in defence.

Great individual skill by Cathy Rees taking on the defenders with her pace and showing great composure to take the ball round the keeper and flick the ball into the net for the Banbridge equaliser. Banbridge continued to push on for the second goal winning numerous penalty corners but were unable to convert. Great play from Samantha Bann allowed Banbridge to win a penalty corner to which Alannah Magee was able to push the ball over the line for Banbridges’ second goal.

Banbridge ladies finished strongly in a great performance and team effort.
