Bann make it two wins from two in Divison two

Clann na Banna continued their Division Two campaign at Cottage Park, securing their second win against Newry Shamrocks.

The match got off to a lively start, both sides attacking with pace but no one able to break the deadlock.

Clann na Banna began their attack with Gary Quinn chipping over the Shamrocks defence to McArdle who then played a low ball along the ground for Gillen to open the score, finishing to the back of the net and putting the home team three points up. With a surging run from half back, Matty Mallon played the ball to Hill who swiftly turned his man and fisted over the bar, adding a second score for the Clann.

As Clann na Banna took the lead, Conor Gough added Shamrock’s first point to game, sending a high ball soaring over the bar.

Although both teams were battling hard for possession, plenty of scoring opportunities were missed by both sides. Determined to hold on to the lead, Clann na Banna began to attack again with Feeney playing a long ball into the forward line, kindly reaching McArdle who finished the ball cutely to the back of the net, past the keeper. With two goals at Clann’s advantage, Shamrocks added a goal of their own straight away when their full forward planted the ball in the top corner of the net out and further lessened scoring gap by scoring another point from free, leaving the half time score 2-1 to 1-2.

Clann opened the second half brightly with McArdle winning free which in turn was pointed by Gillen. Gillen extended the lead further with another free from the right hand side of post and Devlin also added another point, making the score 2-4 to 1-2.

Shamrocks then hit back with a curling shot from left hand side of posts to secure another point on their side. With a solo run from Magee breaking into miles of space, the ball was sent over the bar.

With a fantastic save from the Clann goal keeper, Micky McAllister made a pin point stop 1-1 to deny Shamrocks goal. Shamrocks added another score from play to close gap 2-6 to 1-4. Catching the high ball, Hill leaped well in the air and ran towards the goals but blasted over the bar, unlucky not secure a third goal for the Clann.

Shamrocks continued their fight and worked well to hit back 2-6 to 1-5. McArdle added another two scores for Clann, shooting from a tight angel with the ball bouncing over the bar and pointing a free won by Gillen.

In the heat of the game, Shamrocks get man sent off however they hit back with good score from play. This time from free, Shamrocks closed the gap 1-7 to 2-9. With Connor Lennaghan playing the ball into the box, Feeney wins, turns and blasts the ball to back of net,3-9 to 1-7.

Clann na Banna continued to attack when Conor McCusker played the ball to Liam McGarry in the corner who scored from another tight angel to leave the final score 3-10 to 1-7.
