Bann-tastic run from athlete Mark

Fit N Running athlete Mark McKinstry was at his brilliant best as he stormed his way to victory at the Run n the Bann 5k road race in Portglenone on Thursday evening.

This victory completed a superb week for the rapidly improving Glenwherry man who had led North Belfast Harriers male team to victory at the Northern Ireland and Ulster 10k road race championships 5 days earlier.

McKinstry who has the full range of tactical flexibility choose to run hard from the start and had Richard Johnston of Ballymena runners for company as they broke clear to go through the first mile in 4mins 40 secs.

The searing pace continued with McKinstry opening a 10meter gap from Johnston by the 3k market.

He stuck relentlessly to his task powering his way through the last 2k to claim victory in a personal best time of 15 mins 46secs.

The impressive Richard Johnston who continues his return from injury claimed a good 2nd a further 7 secs back.

Also in action was Fit N Runnings 13 year old Junior James McKeown fresh from his victory at the Rasharkin 5k the previous Saturday.

He ran his second personal best of the week to finish in 21min 35secs claiming 52nd place from a field of 233 runners.
