Bann Thirds close in on second in Junior Two

Banbridge Thirds climbed within three points of second place on Saturday, by seeing off North Down Seconds 2-0 in Comber.

Bann welcomed Adam Marshall, David Gallagher, Matthew Hurst and Dave Armstrong into the panel and hoped to keep their fine run of form going.

North Down were sitting quite deep trying to attack on the break with Bann content to keep the ball in their own half.

Bann finally started to play some attacking hockey with Campbell using his pace to great affect down the left hh. Dean played an excellent first time pass across the face of the goal but Armstrong failed to convert.

A few rash tackles saw both sides lose a couple of players before the end of the first half which on one occasion lead to a short corner for North Down but they failed to convert.

Bann started to control the game in the second half and were using the width of the pitch to great effect. A great long ball from Brown found Dean in acres of space in the North Down 25 but his shot went into the side netting.

Bann continued to press forward and eventually made the breakthrough when Campbell raced into the circle before unleashing an unstoppable reverse stick shot into the bottom corner. A second goal followed quickly for Bann when Dean dived to deflect the ball past the advancing North Down keeper.

North Down tried to get back into the game but failed to trouble Roleston in the Bann goal. Bann were awarded a short corner with ten minutes left in the game and a switch to Kennedy was stopped by a North Down’s players foot on the goal line but Gallagher failed to convert hitting the inside of the post with the ball rebounding away to safety.

Bann now travel to Lisnagarvey to take on their fours with three games left to play in the season.
