Barnes bags a hat-trick as South Fives run riot in Bangor

That’s because they’re just off the back of one of their best displays of the season.

They trashed Bangor 8-0 on Saturday, Stuart Barnes bagging a brilliant hat-trick amid a free-scoring afternoon’s hockey.

South Fives took an early lead in the blistering heat as Robb Barnes deflected in a short corner at the back post after a fierce hit by Ian McElhinney.

Soon after, McElhinney then got himself on the score-sheet not once, but twice, to give South a 3-0 lead with relatively few minutes on the clock.

It was becoming evident that South could hand out a real thrashing and that they did.

Robb Barnes bagged his second of the day after good work from Gareth Hylands to extend South’s lead yet further.

Stuart Glenn then made it five just before the half as South refused to let up.

Jack Farrell got the sixth goal of the day for the visitors and this one was the pick of the bunch.

The schoolboy, in his debut season at the club, picked up the ball on his own 25 yard line with a superbly timed interception, before ghosting past three players and slotting the ball under the advancing keeper from a tight angle.

Stuart Glenn then baseballed a shot into the top corner after some good work down the right by Gary Hylands before Stuart Barnes slotted home his hat-trick goal from a well worked short corner to complete the rout.
