Barnes, McNair and Glassey in running for Newtownabbey Sports Awards

The Sports Awards committee had the unenviable task of narrowing down a fantastic 81 applications to the shortlist of 23.

In the Adult Sportsperson of the Year category, Glengormley resident and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner, Paddy Barnes (boxing), is up against Manchester United’s Paddy McNair and Ireland hockey star Neal Glassey.

Paul Burns (football), Johnny Foster (golf) and Alison McNeill (hockey) are all in the running for the Coach of the Year title.

The number of applications shows the depth of talent and ability in the Borough. The winners will be announced at the gala dinner on Wednesday, March 25 at the Theatre at the Mill.

Limited tickets for the dinner are available at a price of £30 and spectator tickets for the awards ceremony are £5.
