Barrett comes agonisingly close to personal best

With things quiet on the athletics scene over the 12th of July period, County Antrim Harriers had eight members running at either the Waterworks, Victoria or Ecos Parkruns on Saturday morning.

Fastest runner on the day for the club was Ballyrobert’s Chris Barrett, who romped around Belfast’s Victoria Park in an excellent 20:27 and in the process came agonisingly close to breaking his park run personal best of 20:24.

Greg Hopkins was next home for the club at Victoria in 22:25, with sisters Lisa and Katie Barrett clocking 26:09 and 29:27, respectively.

In the north of the city, Heather White continued her recent fine form at the Waterworks Parkrun by finishing in 22:03, followed by Julie Young in a pb of 24:16, and Randall Smyth in 25:43.

Grace Startin was the club’s sole representative at the Ballymena Ecos Parkrun, and had a goody steady race to finish in a time of 28:51. While both Barrett and White are running consistently well at the park runs, they still have some way to go in challenging the club’s 5k records held by Russell Hughes with a time of 16:35 and Christine Murray’s 20:30.

Belfast Victoria Parkrun (July 7): Chris Barrett 20:27; Greg Hopkins 22:25; Lisa Barrett 26:09; Katie Barrett 29:27.

Waterworks Parkrun (July 14): Heather White 22:03; Julie Young 24:16pb; Randall Smyth 25:4.

Ballymena Ecos Parkrun (July 14): Grace Startin 28:51pb
