BCC riders win Ulster Championship Medals

Ballymoney Cycling Club Biesty's Centra senior and youth riders are again on the podium receiving gold, silver and bronze medals. The newly elected Cycling Ulster chairman, Ballymoney's Maurice McAllister, hosted his first awards event on Saturday in mid Ulster.

With the cream of over 220 Ulster and Northern Ireland cyclists assembled in Toome to receive their awards following another highly successful year.

The Ballymoney club saw two gold medals going to under 14 rider Shay Donley for the Ulster Road race and TT championships, silver medals going to senior and youth riders, Stuart Laverty and Kevin McCambridge for the road race and TT championships.

The bronze medals were awarded to full time mummy and triathlete Claire McAvoy for the woman’s 10TT and to Mervyn Linton for the 50 and 100 mile TT.

These awards are just part of another chapter of success for the Ballymoney top flight outfit with Sonia Knox and Maurice McAllister himself winning the Ballymoney and also the regional Causeway and Glens Sportswoman and Sports administrator of the year awards at the annual awards.

Newly appointed Ballymoney Cycling Club Road Race Development officer Niall O’Hagan has been flat out in getting the highly successful youth team riders away on weekend personal development.

Over 30 young riders have been attending each time for physical training, team bonding and all round character adventure sessions at various locations here in Ulster.

Niall is a strong believer in the involvement of youth in sport and how it effects their later life. Making them stronger and better equipped to deal with the challenges ahead.

This year the Ballymoney cyclists are making history with a County Antrim - Ballymoney team team entered for the 8 day An Post Ras international stage race.

This event has seen winners of the Tour de France like Steven Roche, and stage winners and world champions like German cyclist Tony Martin as well as Ballymoney honorary member Steven Gallagher as winners of the event in the past.

In the coming weeks the Ballymoney team will present the riders to the press and extensive features about them will be covered.
