Beggs delighted as Inst win again

COLERAINE Inst coach, Richard Beggs, praised his side's defensive qualities as they recorded another win on Saturday.

Both sides had made unbeaten starts to the season with two wins each, but Inst came out of the game with their 100% record still intact winning 10-7.

Coach Beggs was delighted with his team's efforts against a strong Regent side.

“The most encouraging thing about today was the heart the boys showed in defence," he told Times Sport.

"It was an excellent win against a much fancied Regent side.”

The conditions were perfect for rugby on Saturday. Regent House kicked off and within the first five minutes Inst's intentions were to move the ball wide and stretch the Regent defence.

After an excellent passage of play with great carries from Ali Ashgar and Christie McLaughlin, quick ball was supplied to the Inst backs, who carved up the Regent defence allowing winger Simon Cargin to score in the corner. The conversion was added to give the hosts a seven point lead.

Inst continued to dominate and out-half Mike Poskitt added another three points to their tally with a penalty on 14 minutes. The first half ended with a number of line breaks from both sides but last ditch defence prevented any further scores.

In to the second half and Inst found themselves camped in their own half forthe first 20 minutes, however, thanks to magnificent defence from Stephen Best, Adam Dysart and Joshua Livingstone they held Regent out.

Regent finally broke through on 65 minutes to endCAI’srecord of not conceding a try for over 200 minutes of rugby. The conversion was added by the Regent out-half to take the visitors within three points.

Inst went on the offensive again and were unlucky not to stretch their advantage in the last 15 minutes. In the end they ran out winners 10-7 to prove Inst to be strong contenders this season winning three from three.

The Man of the Match was Stephen Best, but there were excellent performances from Joe Livingston, turning over the opposition ball and tackling, and Christy McLaughlin who dominated the lineouts.
