Bell named in Ireland squad as Garvey to blood youth in Anderson Cup

Lisnagarvey captain Jonny Bell has sealed his place in Ireland’s squad for the Champions Challenge Series in Malaysia.

Bell played in both of Ireland’s defeats to England in Reading last week and clearly did enough to impress new coach Craig Fulton and has made into his 18 man squad.

He is Garvey’s only representative, although Jason Lynch has been named as a non-travelling reserve after also featuring against England last week.

The tournament will begin next Saturday 26 April.

Meanwhile, back at Comber Road, Lisnagarvey’s season is not completely at a close.

They are involved in the Anderson Cup competition which begins on Friday 25 April.

The details of the McCausland, Light and Rankin sponsored tournament were issued lately with 10 Premier League teams plus the top six Senior One teams playing off in four sections.

The venues for the competition are in Mossley, Queens, Instonians and Cookstown with Garvey playing in the Mossley group on Friday 25 April.

The other three teams in the section are Mossley, Bangor and North Down and the teams are reduced to nine players a side. The winners of the each group attend the season-closing finals day at Banbridge on Saturday 3 May.

Garvey will use the end of season competition to play a lot of their talented youngsters and a few old hands to steer the ship as they did last season.

Coach Errol Lutton, after his tiring compaign, is looking forward to the Super Nine format and watching with interest the performance of his schoolboy players.
