Bertie's under 12's impress at Foyle Cup

BERTIE Peacock under 12's had a good week at the Foyle Cup.

In their opening game they drew with a strong Canadia Soccer Academy. Depsite going behind twice, the Coleraine youngsters held out for a 2-2 draw.

Jake Francis grabbed the first from a free kick, before Kyle Walker drilled home a Ross McElphatric corner.

On Wednesday, the Coleraine youngsters faced a physical battle against Cavan.

The under 12’s put in a fine performance to keep their unbeaten Foyle Cup record intact.

Cavan broke the deadlock with ten minutes left on the clock, but Kyle Walker was the man on target again, as he hit the back of the net with minutes to go to level the scores.

Crusaders were up next for the under 12’s and despite putting up a good fight, the Coleraine youngsters went down 3-0.

Friday saw the Rosebowl quarter final against Lisburn Distillery. And, Bertie’s boys got themselves back on form for this encounter winning 5-0. Goals on the day came from Daniel O'Kane (2), Oran McAteer, Stephen Connor and Jake Francis.

The win meant the boys had a semi final at 5pm against Ballinamallard. Despite a battling peformance, the Fermanagh side proved too strong and beat the Coleraine boys 1-0.

Despite the Rosebowl defeat, the team ended their Foyle Cup on a high beating derby rivals Institute 2-0.

Daniel Bradley and Oran McAteer grabbed the goals on the day to end off a good week for the Coleraine team.
