Biesty’s Ballymoney Youths selected to race for Ulster

Ballymoney Cycling Club Biesty’s Centra Race Team riders and supporters were delighted with the news that on the anniversary of their club sponsor Glenn and Angela Biesty’s 10 Years in the Toon birthday bash, that the club’s youth racers Robbie Doherty Under-16, Arthur Taggart and Shay Donley Under-14 and Rowan Montgomery have been selected to ride for their province at the Errigal International Youth 3 Day race in August.

This event sees the best of the youth racers not only in Ireland but from the UK mainland and Europe race around Churchill in Donegal for three days and four stages.

Ballymoney CC have been working with this purpose in mind to develop and educate their young stars of tomorrow by getting them the experience to take part in this type of quality racing. In the past Arthur Taggart, Robbie Doherty and Shay Donley have represented Ulster with Shay recently representing Ireland at International level in the UK. It is testament to the committment at Ballymoney CC to see a new name, Rowan Montgomery, join the ranks in these international races. Rowan is a National bronze medal winner in last year’s criterium around Ballymoney when 197 other youth riders lined up to share out the Irish medals.

Ballymoney CC used a new circuit on Thursday evening and this was a forerunner to the Dervock Civic Week races on Saturday 18th when all local riders will be invited to celebrate a feast of races in the village. This new circuit saw an attempt to encourage all local clubs to take part in what was an opportunity for riders from normally opposing clubs to join forces and ride to help each other. Thank you to Causeway CC, Carn Wheelers, Dunloy, Glens and Ballycastle riders who took part. Fastest on the night were Shane Elder (Carn) and Robert Fleming (Causeway CC) in a time of 21:13.
