big derby final fortoon bowling team

BALLYMONEY’S bowlers blasted their way through to the final of the Irish Senior Cup and now they will play neighbours Coleraine in a mouth-watering derby on Saturday August 24 at Belmont Bowling Club in Belfast.

Ballymoney reached the decider with a 70-60 success against Ballymena Seniors in Coleraine on Saturday.

The Toon knew it was going to be their day when Ballymena’s Jim Baker’s rink lost 7 shots on the first end and with only 4 or 5 ends played across the green Ballymoney were over 20 shots to the good.

On rink 1 Jimmy Hodges, Sammy Allen, Andrew Morrison and Andrew Kyle of Ballymena started off steadily against A Steele and with 10 ends played the Braidmen held a 4 shot lead but lost by 18 shots to 17.

Andrew Bonnar, J J Robinson, Mark Torrington and Jim Baker of Ballymena had a day to forget against W McCaw on rink 2 and were well beaten on the day by 25 shots to 8.

Ballymena’s James Gaston, Graham Wilson, Steven Falls and Nigel Robinson could only win 3 of the first 12 ends in their game against G Kelly on rink 3 to trail by 7 shots however 6 ends later the Braidmen hit the front for the first time when they outscored their opponents 9 shots to 1 but the Ballymoney rink claimed 3 singles to win the match by 16 shots to 14.

On rink 4 J R Nicholl, Alistair Coleman, Andrew Duncan and Steven Coleman of Ballymena found themselves 8-4 down against B McAlary on rink 4 but then the Ballymena rink won 7 ends to change a 4 shot lead deficit to a 5 shot lead. Ballymena won this one by 21 shots to 11.
