Bigmore wins final competition

The annual Gerald McLarnon Memorial Cup was at stake when members of Moyola Angling Club held their final competition of the season.

In first place bait fishing was Brian Bigmore who made it a double success when bagging the heaviest dollaghan of the year at 2lb 2ozs. In the process, Brian secured the Robin McKnight rose bowl for the very first time.

Second place on the fly was Philip Maguire with Rusty Steele third who landed a dollaghan of 1lb 8ozs.

The league table has finished as – Barry Diamond, 115pts; Philip Maguire, 104pts; Tommy McGrath, 102pts; Brian Bigmore, 86pts; Patsy Harkin, 68pts; and Stanley Aspinall, 60pts.

It was noted that all competitions were well supported throughout the year with some good trout weighed in.

Next committee meeting will be held on Monday 12th November at 8pm in Moyola Football Club.

It is now time to look forward to the annual dinner and presentation dance.This will be held on Friday, 16th November,venue being The Elk Bar just outside Toome. Music will be provided by “Kovers” and tickets are now available from any committee member.

Meanwhile, congratulations in order to Moyola club member Michael O’Kane on becoming a GAIA professional game angling instructor.Michael took his double handed rod casting and salmon angling assessment at an event held on the river Suir at Kilsheelan in County Tipperary.

He has been working towards this for the past two years and now hopes to do as much as instruction as he can aiming for his APGAI and FFF exams next year.
