BIKES: Whyte reappointed to top Superbike role

MERVYN Whyte MBE, Race Director of the International North West 200, has been appointed as MCRCB Chief Steward at the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship series.

This is the second year running that Whyte will take up the position, which involves working closely with Series Director Stuart Higgs.

the 2010 Superbike Championship runs over twelve rounds, beginning at Brands Hatch with rounds at Thruxton (South of England) and Knockhill in Scotland. Other rounds take place at Silverstone, Cadwell and Croft.

Mervyn Whyte, who was awarded an MBE in 2008 for his services to sport, said he was looking forward to the new season: "I'm delighted to once again take on the role of Chief Steward at the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship series.

"Last year was a very enjoyable challenge and I immensely enjoyed working with Stuart Higgs and the rest of the team.

"I see my role as a great opportunity to gain more knowledge and experience in the world of motorsport which I hope I can bring back and apply in Northern Ireland. I already look forward to the new championship season", said Whyte.

The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship series kicks off on April 3 and finishes at Oulton Park on the 10th October.

Last year, Mervyn was appointed to the role of Race Director of the International North West 200 – Ireland's largest outdoor sporting event. Whyte was Clerk of Course at the famous road race for eighteen years before taking up this new post.
