Bitter pill to swallow as last gasp goal beats the YCOB

Bann had a bitter pill to swallow on Saturday when losing to Ballykinlar by the narrowest of margins.

A slow start from the Old Boys meant Ballykinlar had a lot of possession in the early stages but Bann were comfortable at the back and never looked like conceding.

With Loughlin and McCreanor battling well in the centre of the park Banbridge began creating lots of problems for a big, physical home side but they struggled to turn this period of superiority into clear cut chances.

Half time arrived with only one save of note, with the home keeper parrying a well struck Neill Wilson drive to safety.

In a game of few chances the second half was largely a stalemate until the last 10 minutes when a poor Bann clearance fell to Ballykinlar who pushed the ball wide and a perfectly delivered cross was headed home powerfully by the centre forward to give Bradman no chance.

The game ended without another shot on target by either side and the Old Boys left the pitch gutted that they didn’t get the point that they certainly deserved.

Newcastle & District Division 2 has proved a good standard of football but Bann are competitive in every game and are optimistic of avoiding relegation in their first season if every player puts in the effort they did in this game.

Best for Bann was the outstanding Mark Loughlin.
