Black Bull give leaders run for their money

GLENCLOY Inn remain top of the tree at in the Inbev Town & Country league this week despite only registering a 3-2 win away to the Black Bull in Thursday night's round of matches.

The seasiders got off to a flyer courtesy of Paul Bates who defeated Rory Bonnes in a 2-0 score line.

The match, however, then went away from Glencloy with the Black Bull claiming the next two games thanks to Brothers Terry and Frank Robb who defeated Paul Abram and Connor McCollum respectively.

Glencloy captain Atcheson however levelled the match with a 2-1 victory over Brendan Byrne to take the match into the deciding game where Pete Morgan finally saw off the Black Bull challenge and see the Glencloy take a narrow 3-2 victory.

With the league leaders dropping points this was the opportune time for other teams to make some ground in the title change and Glencloy's rivals in recent seasons, Lurig 'A', did just that with a very easy 5-0 win over Halfway A who yet again were beaten on their travels.

Lurig claimed the whitewash without dropping a single frame on their

way to victory and this win takes them to within just a point of Glencloy albeit having played a game more.

Another strong title contender is Randalstown Veterans who had a tie against often tricky opponents Halfway B at the Halfway clubrooms.

Veterans, however, showed all their class in this encounter and ended up coming away with a good 4-1 victory the only defeat for the Veterans was the game between Frankie Brammeld and James Liddie with the young Halfway player ensuring both Halfway teams were not whitewashed on the night with a fine 2-0 win.

The victory for the Veterans now taking them to within just two points of Glencloy Inn, both of whom have yet to meet in a re arranged tie.

In the only other match of the night it was the mid table clash of Glencloy Elite and BUSC in Carnlough where the Ballymena side came out on top in a tight game.
