Blaze Ladies in narrow home defeat by University of Ulster

Ballymoney Blaze hosted UUC and the first set started with strong serving from Blaze Captain Zara Bolton.

Coleraine put pressure on the Blaze team and after a string of tough serves they lost the first set 25-21. The Blaze girls took the next set with a decisive victory, with great serving especially from Rosanna Johnston and strong hitting from Isy Ross on the outside. The passing from Milenka Riegelska was once again brilliant and the Blaze girls finished the set with an impressive score of 25-11.

The third set saw a run of serves from Ellen Yates give Blaze an early lead but Coleraine fought back to take the lead. Melissa Traynor and Sophie Rollins played well but Blaze weren’t able to catch up and ended the set 25-16.

Blaze stole the fourth set and won with a very convincing score of 25-8. The fifth set was incredibly close. Blaze started serving, with Captain Zara Bolton once again delivering some brilliant serves. The girls were the first to reach 8 points before the swap. Coleraine fought back until there was only one point between the teams. The girls worked incredibly hard to maintain their lead but unfortunately lost in the last 2 points ending the game 16-14.
