Blaze raided of league points

LAST Wednesday saw the start of the 2010/11 season for Ballymoney Blaze volleyball club when their mens "B" team played against the newly formed Richhill Raiders in a Northern Ireland league one fixture.

Blaze made the long journey south to Richhill knowing they would face tough opposition - All Raiders players bar one are senior mens international players, the odd one out being Graeme Currie who is still on the Northern Ireland U17 squad. Despite putting up a good display of defensive volleyball under the watchful eye of team coach Jonny McClenaghan, Blaze "B's" could not stop Richhill taking an early lead of eight points in the first set.

This scenario continued throughout the night and all three sets were won convincingly by the dominant Richhill team 15-25, 16-25, and 14-25. A special mention must go to the younger members of the Blaze team Jonty Stern and Peter Marshall for their efforts to cover every inch of the volleyball court. On another note, Blaze "A" team play their first league match of the season against Civil Service at Dalriada School sports hall on Wednesday 6th October at 8.00pm. All support of spectators and club members welcome.
