LAST week teams from Ballymoney Model P.S., Kilrea P.S., Portrush P.S. and Eden P.S. joined host Dalriada Prep in their Annual Primary School Girls' Hockey Tournament.

In soaring temperatures, the teams enjoyed playing each other in a friendly, though competitive, manner and some excellent hockey skills were displayed.

At the end of the qualifying section, teams with the highest points met in the final.

Kilrea and Dalriada tied for second place with Kilrea going through on goal difference to meet Portrush, who were clear leaders through qualifying.

The final was hotly contested.

Both teams upped their games determined to emerge victorious and the girls provided spectators with an exciting and dramatic match! Neither team was able to clinch victory with a goal, with it resulting in a scoreless draw at the end of full time. Both teams opted to play extra time, at the end of which the score was still nil-nil.

In the true spirit of the tournament, Portrush and Kilrea decided to share the shield as both teams fully deserved the honour.

Dalriada Prep would like to thank all teams for their continued support of this tournament, the teachers and umpires who helped the tournament to run smoothly and we look forward to seeing everyone next year again!
