Blistering start to 2012 at Raceway

ON a bitterly cold day, there was a feast of red hot action as Ballymena Raceway staged their annual New Year meeting on Holiday Monday afternoon.

Former British Champion Stewart Doak revelled in the difficult track conditions to land the National Hot Rods Winternationals Championship in his Vauxhall Tigra, whilst experienced local driver Victor McAfee overcame a packed field to take the honours in the Gilmore Engineering Challenge Cup.

Some of the best racing on the day was served up by the 2 Litre Hot Rods, where Derek Martin beat off allcomers to lift the Champion of Champions crown. There were also wins for Curtis Greer in the Group 2 Lightning Rods and young Aidan McFerran in the Junior Rods.
