Bobby top scores in the MUSA and Bann put one foot in the semi

It was a good week for Banbridge Golf Club's senior golfers.

They took a big step in the right direction in the MUSA competition, while they also put themselves firmly in the driving seat after the first leg of their Des Gregg Memorial Cup quarter-final.

The third round of the Mid-Ulster Senior Alliance was played at Lisburn Golf Club last Monday.

The Banbridge team had their best team score so far but it still wasn’t good enough to move them from the foot of the league table.

Bobby Geddis seems to revel in this competition. He was the top scorer for the local team with 35 points. He finished his round with two great pars at the 17th and 18th holes, two of the most difficult holes on the Lisburn course.

Merton McDowell, Roy Rankin and Sam Wilkinson each had 34 points, very commendable indeed.

That gave Banbridge a team score of 137 points, a step up in the right direction.

The other four players were John Poots, Dougie Stevenson, Kenny Arlow and Brian Mulholland.

The next round in the MUSA will be played at Banbridge on Wednesday 22nd June.

BANN WIN FIRST LEG AGAINST THE PORTS

Banbridge have made a good start in their quarter-final match in the Des Gregg Memorial Cup.

They won the first leg at home against Portadown last Thursday by a strong margin of 3.5 - 0.5. Team captain Sydney Pepper was well pleased.

Peter Hillen and Brian Mulholland beat Raymond McKeag and Geoffrey Robinson by five holes up.

Sydney Pepper and Kenny Arlow beat Will Barker and Tony Benson by one up.

Bobby Geddis and Seamus McGrath beat David Henderson and Lax Girvan by three holes up.

Norman Doak and Tom Fee finished all square against Colm McKeever and Davy Allen.

The second leg will be played this coming Thursday. It will be close but Banbridge are in a great position.
