Bolton back on form at Ballymena Raceway

Former Stock Rod Irish Champion Alastair Bolton displayed some of his old style with a brace of race wins at Ballymena Raceway on Friday evening.

Bolton had to settle for second place in a keenly contested final however, as Jason Clyde captured the silverware for the second meeting in a row despite strong pressure from Bolton and Adam Sloan.

It proved to be a successful evening for the Kincaid family where brothers Christopher and Antony secured the final honours in their respected classes! F2 Stock Car Irish Champion Christopher fired an ominous warning to his rivals with a brace of victories in his new car, while younger brother Antony produced one of the drives of the meeting to snatch the Junior Rod honours after a fantastic last lap charge,

In the other classes at the ISUZU Truck Antrim sponsored programme Harry Gilmore took a faultless three wins from three races in the opening round of the Group Two Lightning Rod Terraclean Supreme Series, with Ballymoney’s Andy McLeister a strong third. In the Micro F2 Stock Car division Cathal McFerran eased home to a hat-trick of victories.

The National Hot Rods resume their World Qualifying campaign on Friday (April 22) when Ballymena Raceway hosts Round 10 of the PC Paints and Components World Series. Newly crowned Scottish Open Champion Derek Martin heads the standings, with Keith Martin, Gary Woolsey, Adam Maxwell and Glen Bell also well placed, while Jaimie McCurdy, Carl Sloan, Stewart Doak and Nigel McCauley will be aiming to make up ground. Also on the programme are F2 Stock Cars and ORCi Stock Rods, plus Group Two Lightning Rods and Super Saloons. Following the opening round Jason Clyde and Jack Kennedy are locked together, with Alastair Bolton, Adam Sloan and Aaron Moody also well in contention. The first race gets underway in the Ballymena Showground’s at 7.15pm.
