Bolton is at the top of the charts

Stock car sceneBALLYMONEY'S Alastair Bolton displayed his liking for the damp conditions again with a heat and final double success in the Stock Rod class at Ballymena Raceway on Saturday evening.

Bolton had to content himself with second place in the opening heat which was won by Coleraine's Freddie Laffin, but then opened his account in race two after a tremendous battle with Frankie Lynn.

Ballymoney pair John McMillan and Cecil Morrison set the early pace in the final, but Bolton's Vauxhall Nova was quickly on the scene again and powered ahead to take the lead.

The final reached a dramatic conclusion when McMillan's Vauxhall Nova rolled spectacularly along the back straight which brought an immediate halt to proceedings. With the time curfew approaching a result was declared at this point with Bolton the winner, William Laffin in second and Micky McFall in third.

The main events on the programme were the British Championship for National Hot Rods and the Irish Championship for Group Two Lightning Rods.

Two former champions stormed back to the top of the winners' rostrum with Glarryford's Shane Gault capturing the Group Two title for a record breaking fourth time and Portadown racer Stewart Doak reclaiming the British crown he had previously held back in 2007.
