Bonanza at Gracehill Golf Club

BONANZA: a sudden happening that brings good fortune (as a sudden opportunity to make money) .

Well that's the definition but many of the golfers who turned out for the Annual Bonanza Competition may disagree with that slant on the word as the elements conspired to make good golf a bit of a lottery when it came to the short game.

There were a couple of exceptions with good scoring over the 12 holes from Keith Bankhead in Div 2 with 25 points and Herbert McCook in Div 1 with 24 points both of whom would concur with the above definition as they gratefully accepted their 1st prizes.

Other notable scores came from James McClenaghan only beaten on countback in Div 1.

The rest of the prize winners in the same division were James Chestnutt 23, Richard Stinson 21, Don Brown, Donald Rooney, Rodney Donnelly, Niall O'Hagan and Morris Peden all on 19 pts and Richard Bell on 18pts made up the 10 winners.

In Div 2 Ivan Harper was runner up with 23 pts and following him came Aron Patterson on 21, George Smylie and Gary Byers both on 20 pts.

Liam Davidson and Gilmour Harkness got 19 each and the trio on 18 pts were Nick MacRae, Michael McCrellis and James Graham to complete the role of honour for Bonanza Day 2009.

The Winter League is due to commence on Sat 9th January 2010 .

Let’s hope for better weather than we've experienced in the vicinity of Gracehill over the last two weeks .
