A BOOK of Condolence has been opened for former snooker star Alex Higgins at the Guildhall.

The Mayor, Colum Eastwood, playing tribute to him said the Book of Condolence provided fans across the city and district with an opportunity to pay their respects to the sportsman.

Higgins, who won the world snooker championships in 1972 and 1982, was found dead in his flat in the Sandy Row area of Belfast on Saturday. He had suffered from throat cancer for ten years and he also suffered from a long-term addiction to alcohol.
