Boss hopes to seal the deal on Shannon

IT'S official: everyone knew it was going to happen and it has. Ryan Brown signed for Ballymena United last week, so the pressure is now building on manager Paul Millar to conclude the deal that will replace the goalkeeper with Gregg Shannon from Carrick Rangers.

As we reported a few weeks ago, the much-travelled Shannon has agreed in principle to pledge his future to the Inver Park club, but he's still tied by contract for a couple of months and – although he will be a free agent before the new season starts – Millar will now be hoping to get him released to enable him to take part in pre-season matches.

"I've already agreed terms with Gregg and, as I had indicated several weeks ago, I obviously don't envisage any problems developing which could jeopardise that move in any way. But I would like to have him on our books as soon as possible," said the Larne boss.

"As far as I know there's no doubt that he will be available to train with us when we return after the summer recess, regardless of whether he's signed a contract, but I would clearly prefer if he could get permission to play him in our pre-season friendlies," explained Millar, who should really be able to get him released now that he has made up his differences with his Carrick counterpart.
