Boss hoping for a few hairy moments in December

TIM McCann has made a vow to his players not to shave for as long as Lisburn Distillery go undefeated in December.

The Whites head to Mourneview Park this Saturday to take on Glenavon in the Danske Bank Premiership (kick-off 3pm) on the back of a 1-1 draw with Linfield, a game in which they went close to nabbing all three points.

“I’ve promised the lads that as long as we don’t lose this month the razor blades will be staying in the cupboard,” he said.

“It’s just a little incentive for the players and a sign of the good team spirit there is amongst the lads at the moment heading into a vital month for us.”

The Distillery manager said that this weekend’s will be a tough test for his side, however he was hopeful following last Saturday’s draw.

“With 20 minutes to go we were in control but after having Aaron sent off we lost our shape. You can’t give Linfield any sort of advantage because, as we found out, you will be punished.

“We were hurt by not coming away with the three points because we were phenomenal but that momentum is something that we want to carry through to the weekend.

“There are a couple of places between Glenavon and ourselves and three points would help us close the gap.

“It is a massive game - I’ve told the players that every game for us until we secure our safety is a cup final.”

Distillery have a great opportunity to move off the bottom of the table as Donegal Celtic have an away fixture against 10th placed Dungannon Swifts.

Therefore if Dungannon beat DC and Distillery win at Glenavon then Distillery will move off the foot of the table.

“Once our match is over and done with I’ll be looking to see how that game went,” McCann admitted.

“To be honest a draw would be the best result for us as it would make it easier for us to catch the two teams. We don’t want to end up in a play-off either so, at this stage, finishing third bottom has to be the aim.”

Meanwhile the Whites go into the game without a naturally left sided player as Johnny Harkness, who had been recovering from injury, pulled up in training on Tuesday night while Traynor is automatically suspended following his red card against the Blues.

“We’re hoping to have a solution in place for the weekend but I’m confident all of the players will be up to the task,” he said.
