Boss proud of display against Portadown

CARRICK Rangers boss Stephen Small this week spoke of his pride in his team's performance in the 2-1 defeat to Portadown in the Co-operative Insurance Cup on Saturday.

"We've all listened to Ronnie McFall's post-match interviews over a great many years and he's not renowned for dishing out compliments to the opposition. But on Saturday he said nice things about us," said Small.

"He pointed out that we have a number of players with plenty of Irish League experience who are good quality performers and that we didn't go to Shamrock Park to defend, which is absolutely correct.

"We actually created at least five very good chances in the game and I thought we would have won the match had we taken one great opportunity that came our way with about seven minutes remaining. We would certainly have been assured of extra-time."
