Boss Quinn confidentof matching Glentoran

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has promised to go into Saturday's game against Glentoran at the Oval (kick-off 3pm) with a positive approach despite being without a victory in the last six games.

The Blues have picked up just one point in that time, losing five of the games by a solitary goal.

And starting that bad run was a 1-0 defeat to Glentoran at Mourneview Park as a stout defensive performance was undone by a 65th minute Ciaran Martyn header.

Boss Marty Quinn will be hoping for an improvement on that scoreline when his side travel to the Oval on Saturday and claims that they can match the title-chasing Glens, providing they take their goalscoring opportunities.

“We had a tight game against them at Mourneview and they weren’t much better than us on the day,” he said.

“We’ll go to Glentoran on Saturday with a positive attitude, trying to get something out of the game. We’re not going there to put up the barricades or anything. We’ll be going there to have a go at them. I can’t see any reason we can’t get something out of the game and on our day we’re as good as anyone.

“We need to start taking our chances which we still haven’t been doing. It’s frustrating for everyone concerned. We’ve had chances in all of our last few games and we haven’t taken them. We need to get our noses in front and see how we cope with that.

“They’re a good side though and were unlucky against Crusaders on Saturday by all reports. They had picked up one point from the last six before taking on Portadown on Tuesday night so they’ll be chomping at the bit against us on Saturday.”

In that defeat to the Belfast side at Mourneview Park last month, Quinn went with a more defensive line-up that split the support but almost worked as Glentoran’s talented midfield was shackled. Will the boss again change his usual formation in order to contain Scott Young’s men?

“There’s a possibility that we might change our formation about a bit again on Saturday but who knows. We’ll see how we get on against Cliftonville first,” he said, speaking before Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat.

“We went 4-5-1 against them last time and it worked to a certain extent as we contained them for a long period of time and created a few chances ourselves.”
