Boss unsure how new-look Larne will fare

IT'S the big kick-off on Saturday and Larne manager Paul Millar has admitted he hasn't the faintest idea how his much-changed side will fare in the forthcoming campaign.

The former Glentoran boss found himself unable to even guess how his team will get on in Championship 1. But, the former international player insists that he's comforted by the fact that every player at Inver Park is there because he wants to wear the red of Larne.

"Normally, I am happy to make a forecast as how my team will do in the season ahead, but such are things with the club right now, I haven't the faintest idea. My ambition is that we will win more matches than we lose," said Millar.

Larne face a trip to Championship 1 newcomers Dergview on the openining day and Millar says he will be naming a new-look side.

"I am relatively happy with my situation. We'll be fielding a team against Dergview with perhaps as many as seven or eight changes from last year.

"They came up last season and will be difficult opening day opposition, but we'll give it our best shot and, if we play to our potential, I will take whatever result comes with that. But, naturally, we're hoping for a winning start."

"I can tell the supporters that we'll be trying to do our very best in every game and I can definitely assure them that every man who pulls on the jersey is doing so because he really wants to play for Larne. There's certainly nobody who has signed for the money he's getting.

"All I can say is that we'll be trying to get some kind of a run going and, maybe, we will get some extra finance from somewhere to boost the numbers and quality in the squad as the season progresses. But it will be hard to compete with some of the clubs who have spent lavishly to improve what, on paper, were already probably stronger panels than ours."
