Bowls: Champions kick off with a win

LAST year's North West Indoor Bowling League champions, Loughanreagh, kicked off their new campaign with victory over newly promoted St Mary's.

The Windyhall outfit picked up six points on their travels, no other details were available at the time of going to print.

Ballinrees picked up five points at home to Dunluce thanks to their 13-shot win.

Kenny McNeill got the hosts off to a dream startbeating Harry Elliott by 12. Uel McKeeman won a point for the visitors edging out Victor Millen by a single shot.

In another close finish Alastair McIntyre beat William Calvin by two before Jonathon Calvin sealed the win for Ballinrees with a four shot win over Alastair Kilpatrick.

Second Kilrea got their season off to a dream start as they beat Moneydig by 18 shots, picking up 6.5 points in the process.

In the first half Margaret Johnston beat Brian McFetridge by four and Nicky McCaw saw off Trevor Workman by seven shots.

Alan Paul added another seven to their total with victory over David Wright. But the grand slam was spoiled by Willie Knight who grabbed a share of the spoils with Ivan Smyth in a nail-biting finish.

The Marian picked up five hard-earned points on their travels with a five shot win over Boveedy.

James Martin snr picked up the visitors first point with a seven shot win over Alan Catherwood. Dougie Morrow reduced the lead as he beat Brian McAlary by five.

After the break Nigel Gamble picked up a second point for the hosts as he beat Terence McGarry by four shots. But James Martin jr wrapped up the win for Marian with a seven shot victory over Ronnie Catherwood.

In Division Two Drumreagh grabbed a grand slam win at home to First Coleraine winning by 17 shots in the end.

Carson Boyd beat Robert Campbell by six and Raymond Clyde won by the same margin against Bryan Shaw in the first half.

Brian Taggart edged out Colin Hutchinson by a single shot before Edwin Jackson made sure of the clean sweep beating Jim Campbell by four shots.

Montra also recorded a grand slam win as they beat New Row by 19 shots as they bid to bounce back to Division One at the first attempt.

Jimmy O’Neill beat Jonathon Elder by four and Peter Whittaker beat Gary Lyttle by five to put them in control at the break.

Liam McNicholl squeezed past Joe Elkin by a single shot before Paul Donnelly sealed the win with a nine shot win over Tommy Moffatt.

Killowen kicked off their season with a nine shot win at home to Garvagh and District, picking up five points in the process.

Billy Boyce set the hosts on their way with a 12-shot win over David Workman. Eileen McCafferty reduced the deficit by four with victory over Sadie Davis.

Willie McKay saw off Ian Reynolds by two before Adrian Whitepicked up another point for the visitors with a one shot win over Samuel Connor jr.
